The screw impeller is an axial-flow impeller. One or more evenly spaced helical stainless steel ribbons are arranged around the agitator shaft. Material is lifted along the helical screw, where it is effectively divided and dispersed to achieve mixing. When a draft tube is used, the screw impeller forces positive circulation of material between the inside and outside of the draft tube. It is suitable for mixing and heat transfer processes involving high-viscosity media.
